I can't believe I did this but I launched an Indiegogo campaign!
While my Kindle ebooks have sold really well, I have found printed copies of my books are very expensive especially with the graphics and colors and I felt there must be another way to offer reasonably priced books for people to buy without breaking the bank. After a lot of research, I found you can buy "automatic perfect binding" machines that can bind and produce up to 200 books an hour. Not only could I publish my own books but I could help other new authors who need an affordable publishing option so they can get their books out in the world too.
Please check out my video below and visit my Indiegogo campaign for more information.
And guess what? My birthday is Friday and to celebrate, all my books will be available on Kindle for FREE! The offer is open from Friday, September 14th, through Sunday, September 16th.
Use the Kindle link above and get your FREE book downloads beginning this Friday.
I forgot to mention I did receive my test print of the more affordable "trade book" format from Blurb. It looks great! The pages are not as glossy as the "photo book" format but the colors are still very vivid and I actually think the size of the book is better for smaller kid hands.
The only issue is when I first created the illustrations, I made them for a different size and now the illustrations do not fit on the page as well as I would like. I'll have to reformat them a bit and then create the books. Hopefully, I can finish that before the year is done.
I bought a Speedball screen printing kit and goofed around trying to screen print Burt the Bunny on tote bags and t shirts. As you can see, I did quite a few test runs on drawing paper and finally was able to do a couple of t shirts and some tote bags. They didn't turn out too bad considering this was my first time trying to screen print. YouTube videos are the best help ever. ha ha
I had to order more ink which should be here tomorrow since I need the practice!
I'm creating a fine-tuned image of Burt the Bunny so I can screen print a few t shirts! I've always wanted to try screen printing and thought wouldn't Burt be darling on a t shirt or a tote bag?
I've had quite a few people write me asking me for a "real" book to read to their kids rather than the Kindle eBook and while I do have "print-on-demand" books available via Blurb, they are admittedly, not very affordable. I did a bit of research into how I could make them more affordable and found that Blurb offers a "trade book" which is less expensive than the "photo book" format so as an experiment, I formatted Burt's Undersea Adventure into a trade book which sells for $8.99. A much better price than the $26 (yikes!) for the photo book. I'm not sure why I didn't notice this before. Could be I had no idea what I was doing at the time? ha ha
But.....I do not have the $8.99 version available for sale yet. I ordered a copy to proof first so I can make sure the quality is excellent before I sell to my readers! I should receive the book within a a week or so and I'll let you know what I think and when it will be available. Also, if the trade book format works then I will format the other two books and upload them for purchase too.
Fingers crossed this all works out! :-) Screenshot below of the new format.
I had a thought while I was cleaning the house (best ideas come to me while cleaning ha ha) that Burt needs a pirate song for his new adventure. Yes, that was a little bit of a hint of the next book!
In the next book, Rocket Roy and Boris the Bear head out for a space adventure leaving poor Burt the Bunny home.....alone. What were they thinking? Don't they realize Burt's middle name is "Mischief"? :-)
While doing a bit of research into pirate songs I found this really fun site with famous songs and the history behind them. Go check it out! It's pretty fun!
I'm officially an "empty-nester"! My youngest moved out a couple of weeks ago so I took over his old room and made it into my studio. Finally a huge closet to hold all my art supplies (all in one room) and the best part is the view into our backyard. No more looking at the side of the neighbor's house!
I feel like I'm finally making some progress! I've been drawing and writing almost every night (after my day job) so I hope to start creating the digital pages within a couple of weeks.
I found a three-pack of drawing booklets by Canson and they are the best for jotting down ideas and quick illustrations. The paper is the perfect texture and feels wonderful while drawing and writing. Anyone else out there as picky as I am about sketchbook paper?
Here is a tiny peek of the first story notes for Burt the Bunny's next adventure.
Finally! Getting back to work. Not sure what happened to my focus this past year but I found myself completely distracted with family, the flu, house remodel and a new dirt bike which I'm sure will continue to be a distraction. ha ha Really love my dirt bike.
Today I began story boarding a new Burt the Bunny adventure and so far, I think there will be a lot of improvements in the story telling. In reading my books to my little grandson, I realized there are better ways to narrate the stories and help the books grow with the child as they learn how to read.
In the meantime, please nab FREE copies of a couple of my books at Kindle starting Monday, March 12th through Friday, March 16th. :-)
